Age is a mindset

A must read article.  So much research points to the power we hold over that process.  So much research shows we hold the controls and we are not at the mercy of how we age.  Through educating ourselves, we will empower ourselves and apply strategies that work and improve our lives and the lives of those we love.  Take the 10 min to read this, it's worth it.

Post comments after you finish reading.

Health is a game of BALANCE:

Fitness and health is just like any skill, it can be improved.

A quick big picture view how it is a balance of, training and then taking the proper time off from training to recover, grow.

Sadly great majority of people don’t have balance.  There are those who “MUST” do something everyday, and on the other side are couch potatoes.

Back to Balance:  It’s about continually adjusting to the life and choices we create, learning to say no so we can say yes to what is truly important.  There is so much that is pulling on our attention all the time that we have to learn to say no more than we say yes and be really prudent with how we manage our energy and time.

Go through this list and see how well you balanced your week.
Training
Quality Sleep
Nutrition
Mindful Breathing
Hydration
Stretching or massage
Recovery days
Rest day (rest from training, rest from stress, rest for digestive system, find a place to emotionally rest, self appreciation)

Stay awesome, mindfully apply this to your next week.  Plan for it and you have increased your probability of success.

Running

Running is a good calorie burner, but the repetitive motion doesn’t always do a body good — the constant forward motion, with little to no variation increases likely hood of developing tight hips, overuse injuries, and other conditions.

This is one reason why in class we mix it up with the side shuffles, cross overs, running backwards, to name some of the main variations.

Personally, to make my running more natural with variation, i go trail running.  Trails by their nature make us move swiftly and changing direction, continually adjusting.  Then there are hills which are a great way to burn calories and get super fit.

Recovery

Recovery:

You can google “workout recovery” and lots of info will pop up.  Every good and smart athlete takes their weeks off, in a year most will take a month or more off.  Most of the aches and pains are accumulations of micro injuries that happen during training that for the most part could have been prevented with a intelligent training program.  Learning how to properly breathe, de-stress, get enough sleep, do recovery exercises, and nourish your body are all super important parts of overall health.  For some reason few want to engage in proper training, most just want to train constantly; just ignoring, or not even being able to listen to what their body tells them.  Some people see the light and some don’t.  The right thing to do is to promote and instill recovery into our routine.

Quote of the week

We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as insoluble problems.

John W. Gardner (1912–2002)

American reformer and activist

So much of our success hangs on our ability to reframe our perception.  To be able to find the joy in exercise, purpose in eating healthy, and so on.

Perhaps the greatest change in personal perception is to see problems as opportunities. Each problem as an opportunity to discover more about ourselves, opportunity to learn something new and in that evolve to a higher self.  To develop a craving for problems.

Stay awesome
