Embracing a healthy diet is not always easy if you’ve become accustomed to eating the foods you want, when you want. Becoming healthier means breaking unhealthy habits that you currently have, and it means making a conscious effort every day to make better choices.

1. Eating while preoccupied  

This is a very common habit, which results from having food nearby when you’re doing some sort of stationary activity. It can be very appealing to snack throughout the day while watching television, doing your work or cooking.  The best ways to avoid this habit include setting a snack schedule, choosing heathier options and portioning your snacks so you don’t overindulge.

2. Skipping Breakfast

Eating your breakfast is extremely important, as this gives you the energy you will need to tackle your day with energy and efficiency. If you skip breakfast, this can lower your metabolism and cause you to become hungry again soon after.If you are in a hurry and know you will not be able to make a balanced breakfast, you should have some meals prepped the day before.

3. Emotional Eating

We tend to eat more when we are stressed or emotional. Emotional eating is a form of comfort, and while it may make you feel good now, you will regret it later. If you’re going to snack, try to avoid overindulging in salts, sugars and foods that are heavy in fat. Instead of eating junk food, try doing some exercises either outdoors or right in your living room to get your blood flowing and positive energy going again.

4. Binge Eating on Weekends

It’s a classic bad habit that we forget our health goals and embrace overindulgence on the weekend. Not only will poor eating habits take away from your good eating all week, but it is also very unhealthy to overeat when your body has become accustomed to lighter meals.  If you are trying to become healthier, it is not necessary to completely avoid all your favorite foods, but it’s important to indulge in smart rations. Your dedication to your well-being deserves a treat once in a while!
