What do you do after a weekend of indulging and eating sumptuous food? Some of us don’t know how to get back on track, or how to begin burning off the calories we’ve gained from the weekend’s festivities. Below are some tips to keep in mind, which will help you to stay on track and continue to pursue your fitness goals:
Do not skip your meals
You may be thinking that since you ate and indulged over the weekend, it is acceptable to skip meals the following day to balance out your intake; however, this is not true at all. Skipping meals can cause your body to activate your stress hormones, which can slow down your metabolism and begin to store excess fat inside your body.
Drink lots of Water
You should always be getting your daily requirement of water, and the need is no different after a filling weekend. Drinking water if the first thing you should do when you wake up, as this will help to get your stomach moving, your brain working and help to remove excess salt and sugar you’ve had over the weekend. Keep a bottle of water with you wherever you go, so you can stay hydrated all the times. It is suggested that you should be drinking between half an ounce and a full ounce of water per pound you weight every day, regardless of your weekend eating habits.
Eating Breakfast and Lunch
Always remember that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, regardless of whether you still feel full from what you ate yesterday. Breakfast is important for fueling your entire day, so try to take foods rich in fiber and protein to help you through the whole day.
As for lunch, you should try eating leafy green foods and good carbohydrates, but you should avoid refined ones as this can cause your sugar levels to rise. Some of the foods rich in good carbohydrates include brown rice, wholegrain breads as well as sweet potatoes—these are the perfect ingredients for you to keep fit and healthy.
Exercise is the Key
It is important to burn the excess calories you’ve ingested because the longer you leave them, the harder a time you will have burning them off. However, don’t push yourself too hard at first; you can start with light walking and other types of exercise that will help you feel better gradually.Unless you’re used to training daily, allow your body ready to get back on track comfortably.
Remember these tips any time that you feel you have indulged a little excessively, but don’t forget that it is okay to enjoy yourself. It’s a normal thing to partake in an indulgent weekend, but let’s always remember as well to take care of our body.
